Santa Monica Pays Out $21 Million to Farmers Market Car Crash Victims

The City of Santa Monica just announced that it will pay an additional $6 million to settle the last two suits resulting from a 2003 Farmer's Market car crash that left 10 dead and 63 injured.  Yesterday's additional settlement will compensate the families of three victims which includes a 7-month old baby and his grandmother.

You may recall an 86-year-old driver crashing his car through a wooden barricade and racing through the open-air market at 60 mph in July of 2003.   It was alleged that the city was negligent in using lightweight barricades to protect pedestrians from errant drivers.
